Sewing Needles
A practical guide for choosing needles when working with fursuit materials.
Universal Needles
70/10 – 80/12
- General use.
- Minky.
- Lightweight fabrics.
- Lining.
Ballpoint / Jersey Needles
80/12
- Stretch fabrics such as minky and lycra.
- Helps prevent damaging fibers.
- Reduces visible holes.
Jeans / Denim Needles
90/14 – 100/16
- Useful for faux fur, especially thick backing.
- Stronger needle.
- Less risk of breaking.
Practical Tips
- Change needles often: faux fur dulls them quickly.
- If your machine skips stitches, switch to a larger needle.
- For minky, ballpoint needles help prevent fabric damage.
- For structural seams, use strong polyester thread and a sturdy needle.
